| This is a story I wrote, it has a big Harry Potter theme, but whatever.
Chapter 1 - Aeros ------------------------
Aeros stalked quietly across the jungle floor, taking in silent breaths every several seconds. His hair was black, and he had green eyes, with a five and a half foot frame. He crouched behind a nearby bush, and drew an arrow. Jungle trees and domestic oaks surrounded the environment. The air was musty and humid, like all other jungles. Few rays of sunshine broke its way through the tall trees, and reached the moss covered floor. It was beautiful, watching several beams of light hit at different spots, and beyond that, was shade. Aeros focused himself on his task. One slight movement, and all could go wrong. Almost forty - five feet away from him, stood a huge group of deer, numbering to the hundreds, the largest herd ever recorded. It did not matter if Aeros missed the shot, the village would find other ways of getting food. In the winter, the deer would head toward the village, sensing a greater amount of heat there.
Aeros inserted his arrow into the bow, and pulled the string back. The wood bent quietly in response to the pressure, and with three steady breaths, Aeros released the arrow. It zoomed across the jungle floor, passing leaves that were scattered by the eventual wind. It missed the deer by less than an inch. The deer scattered, each absorbing other's fear. Aeros swore. He had not counted on losing his Phyran arrow.
He walked slowly across the jungle floor, examining every strand of grass from Bermuda to Turf. Finally, he found his arrow, stuck in the hard dirt. Its upper wooden stick had broken off, and now was dangling by a splinter. Aeros swore again. Not only had he lost the deer, now he had broken a very good arrow. A twig snapped in front of Aeros, and he jumped back, startled by the noise. He drew his sword, which was on the right side of his hip, and held the sword calmly with two hands. After awhile, he assumed that it was a small animal, such as a squirrel that had made the sound.
Slinging his bow back onto his back, Aeros slowly wandered through the forest, back to his village. A dark hooded figure stepped out staring at the retreating figure of Aeros. The dark figure bent down, and yanked the arrow free out of the dirt. It stared momentarily at the feathers, and with a single chuckle, it pursued the trail of Aeros.
Chapter 2 - Valkar ---------------------
Valkar sat on a large, black throne. His black hair fell down past his red eyes, which were focused on a pale servant kneeling in front of him. The room was occupied by a table that stood in the center of the room with two chairs, but other than that, was empty. A single hole in the roof allowed moonlight to shine through onto the rotting, wood oak floor. Wild weeds had formed along the glassless windows, wrapping itself on the bricks. The wild smell of the forest streamed into the room, hot and humid.
"M . . . master," said the kneeling figure in front of Valkar.
"Do you have the report?" Valkar asked, smoothly fingering his wand.
"I b . . . brought it, m . . . master," stammered the pale servant, trying well to focus his eyes on the floor. He slowly stood up, and handed a piece of parchment to Valkar.
"I've been thinking, Galinco. When you speak of me, to others, I prefer that you call me the Dark Lord," Valkar said, thoughtfully.
"Yes, D . . . Dark Lord," said the servant, shakily.
"Not me you idiot! To the others!" Valkar said, hissing. His red eyes filled with hate as he glared at his servant.
"Yes . . .m . . . master," said the servant.
Taking a glance at the document, Valkar briefly scanned the report. He a glance at Galinco, he said, "this does not tell me much about the Ministry, our government."
"But m . . .master, does it not explain -"
"It explains nothing, merely folly and false ideas that the Ministry wants to plant into our heads!" Valkar said calmly, restraining his anger. "Bring me a true report. A four paged report on their defenses, workers, and movement observed by you, and only you."
"Yes, master," Galinco said. He had counted on his report being acknowledged and welcomed, but now, was demanded an even more detailed report. He turned the subject to something different. "What of Alister? What of him? Where is he?"
The Dark Lord raised an eyebrow. "Alister? He is working in Romania, spying on Galistis. He, unlike you, can provide accurate reports describing date and time, action, and planning. What importance is he to you? You do your job, and pay no attention to the others. You concentrate on your task."
"Y . . . Yes, master," Galinco said, shakily.
"Oh and . . .Galinco," said the Dark Lord silkily.
"Yes? M. . . master?" Galinco said nervously. He knew what happened to those who did not please Valkar.
Valkar slowly drew a sword that had occupied the right side of the chair, and with a motion so fast, it looked as if he had not moved at all, lopped off Galinco's pinky. Galinco did not feel the pain until a full four seconds after the movement. Valkar sheathed the sword, and flashed Galinco a cold smile. The pain hit Galinco with a full blast, and he fell back down onto the floor, thrashing, clutching his wound as blood streamed down his hand and onto the rotten, wooden floor, which consumed the blood with almost a savage delight.
Valkar muttered a few words, and the two doors behind Galinco opened. Four dark figures glided into the room. As the figures drew into the room, the room acquired a dark, deathly feeling, as if happiness had been sucked out, being replaced by sadness. Valkar withdrew his wand, and held it by the side of his robes.
"Get him out of my sight," Valkar said coldly. "Do not allow any others in here without my permission. Do not allow this one," Valkar said, pointing his wand at Galinco, who was grimacing in pain silently, "to come back in without a four paged report on the Ministry. Oh and, contact Alister and demand a six paged report on Galistis, I know he will no fail me." Valkar looked swiftly from the dark figures to Galinco.
"I feel that you have not suffered enough," Valkar said. His face acquired a evil smile. Pointing his wand at Galinco. "Exertio!"
Galinco was hit by a full blast from the torture curse. His whole body writhed in pain, and his very bones felt as if they were on fire. Screams erupted out of his throat as he endured his punishment.
"Exertio!" Repeated Valkar, ending the torment. "Now, take him out." He said to the dark figures who remained motionless throughout the torture. With silent obedience, they took Galinco by the arm, and carried him out of the room. Valkar turned around, and stalked over to his black throne. He muttered a few words, and the doors behind him closed.
"Ssssir," hissed a voice outside. "Avery demandsss and audience."
"Ah, Avery, let him in." Valkar said. He whisked his wand at a nearby chair. Moving his wand slowly across the room until he was pointing the wand forward, the chair followed the wand's movement, and repositioned itself fifteen feet away from Valkar. The doors slowly creaked back open, and a black haired, light blue eyed, six foot framed man entered the room. He took occasional glances from side to side, as if expecting a figure to jump out and attack him. Avery slowly, carefully, sat down in the chair, adjusting his position in the chair anxiously. Avery stared at Valkar, who stared back at him. After a brief moment, Avery bursted out,"I found a flaw in the Ministry's security charm wall.
Valkar leaned forward in his seat, surprised by Avery's success. "And what might that be?"
Avery grinned, happy that the Dark Lord was not unhappy with him. "Leston, the idiot, set up incredibly weak defense charms on the left wing of the Ministry. After he left, I disabled the charm wall, and entered the building. I discovered that the room that we are looking for, the Prophecy room, is on the fourth ground floor, guarded by eight Aurors, six Glang-Guards, and two Head Gang-Guards. I remembered to disable the security camera globes that monitor the hallway with a Stunning Jinx. "Stupefy" has always been a favorite of mine." Avery said, concluding his report.
"The Ministry . . . flaw . . . fourth floor . . . Prophecy room?" Breathed Valkar. "Months of preparation has proved itself. That means . . . once we get our hands on the Prophecy, we can locate the boy who is deemed to destroy me, and destroy him first!"
"Indeed," Avery said, happily.
"Good, good, you may leave." Valkar said, waving his hand in the direction of the door. He muttered a few words, and the door opened once more, and Avery exited the room. As soon as Avery had exited the room, another figure walked in. A messy haired, brown eyed, six foot framed man. He quickly positioned himself on the chair with a look of disgust on his face.
"What are you doing here, Malcair? Why did my personal guard not alert me of your presence?" Valkar said angrily.
"The . . . guard, know important information when they see one," Malcair said coldly, looking from Valkar, to his wand in his hand. "You may find the information I have is useful, but that is of course, if you want to hear it."
Malcair, who always brought important information, quickly brought Valkar into saying, "please, continue."
Looking to the side with a bored expression on his face, Malcair said simply, "Balinco claims that he has found the boy."
"But how is that even possible? We do not have the Prophecy . . . for the moment, but how would Balinco know that he has found the boy. There are many children out there, and Balinco claims that he has found the one?"
"We are not completely out of information. We know that the boy must use Phyran arrows, he must be the strongest in his group, and he must be the healthiest." Malcair said, running his hand up the chair leg. "The boy fits the description. He used Phyran arrows. Balinco found a broken arrow that the boy left in the forest, and examined it. It is of a Phyran. The boy looked strong and healthy enough to be the best in his village, so, Balinco tailed him. They are both near the town of Paxium. The town itself is as old as the Roman Empire. But of course, history has reached its height where the common non-magic people, Demegles, have not troubled with magic since the last rise of the dark empire, as you know it."
"Yes, yes," murmured Valkar, staring at his wand, "We must kill the boy."
"I think that is established."
"Then you may leave," Valkar said, whispering the words that opened the doors.
"Thank you," Malcair said, and with a low bow, he took once cold glance at Valkar, before walking out.
"I hate that man," Valkar murmured to himself as the figure of Malcair slowly grew smaller, "I hate him."
Chapter 3 - Darkness
Aeros stumped wearily back into his village. The clouds had blocked the sun, shining gray light into the settlement. Each house was built oddly, more oddly compared to present day England. The houses were lined nice and straight on both sides of the main road, where in the center, occupied a beautiful fountain, with the carving of Aphrodite. Aeros flung his bow across to a nearby house, where it landed on a stack of hay.

| It is a very interesting read. I thought of it more towards Eragon by Christopher Paolini than Harry Potter. Great use of detail, even telling the reader exactly how many chairs surrounded the wooden table. All in all, a good start to an interesting tale. | |
